ABBBAS-winners-and-finalists

From the sole trader working from their kitchen counter to the 50-strong team from a well-established company, local businesses are the backbone of our communities, providing goods and services that enhance our quality of life. These businesses are owned and operated by people who are passionate about their work and committed to making a positive impact on a local level.

The Above & Beyond Bromley Business Awards (The ABBBAs) recognises the hard work, dedication and innovation of businesses throughout the London borough of Bromley.

Any business, large or small and based in the borough
has the opportunity to win an ‘ABBBA’.

We believe that by shining a spotlight on these exceptional businesses and highlighting what they do and how they do it, we can inspire others and ultimately make our community even stronger.

We are accepting nominations for a range of awards including Best Startup, Best Individual and Best Social Impact, among others. Judging is performed on a points system rather than a popularity contest; the panel of judges will independently evaluate each nomination based on a set of criteria that reflects the values of our community.

So, whether you’re a small business owner looking for recognition, or a community member who wants to show your appreciation for a business that makes a difference, we invite you to participate in our community business awards.  And if you need any more convincing, here are 11 reasons why entering The ABBBAs (or any business awards) can be great for business.

The ABBBAs presents an exciting opportunity to come together and celebrate the vibrant entrepreneurial spirit that makes our community so special.

It’s time to celebrate!

“The ABBBAs aims to acknowledge, raise awareness of and celebrate those companies within the Bromley borough that go ‘Above and Beyond’ for their customers, local residents or the wider community. These businesses are the backbone of our communities, and I believe that it’s important to shine a light on them as an inspiration to others.”

Judges

We’ve appointed a diverse panel of judges across a range of backgrounds, experience, age and knowledge, to ensure that all award submissions are judged fairly.

The Judges

Jane Rogers

Jane Rogers, AKA The Word Wizard, loves waving her magic wand to help local businesses transform their content marketing. When not writing, she runs marketing training and workshops. Living in Beckenham for 16 years, Jane also runs Beckenham Business Association. Outside of work, Jane loves dancing, treading the boards in local panto and all things French!

Jane Knight

Jane Knight is the founder of Successful Mums Career Academy, based in Bromley. She started the business in 2014 after seeing first-hand the barriers mums faced returning to work. She has since helped 10,000 mums and was awarded Bromley's Community Hero in the ABBBAs last year.

Chas Jordan

Much of Chas’ professional career has been in the office equipment industry, but his passion has been (and still is) advocating for fairness in contracts. He has returned over £11 million over the last 15 years to affected schools and charities who have fallen foul of unscrupulous sales companies. Awarded Business Personality of The Year in the ABBBAs 2023, Chas treasures family, friends, pub chats and a round of golf. He also co-founded and runs the Bromley Business Network.

Holly Norris

Holly Norris has been chosen as this year’s Resident Judge. Holly is 25 and has always lived in the borough. She is a trainee accountant, the fundraising coordinator for Petts Wood Playgroup and the supporters’ coach organiser for Bromley FC. When Holly’s not working or at Bromley FC, she loves cooking, reading and watching Grey's Anatomy. She said: “I'm very excited to be working alongside the other judges to recognise the work that Bromley businesses do throughout the borough.”

Criteria

The ABBBAs is not based on a popularity contest, nor will you need to have a team of employees to be considered. It’s simple: if you think you go ‘above and beyond’ for either your customers or your local community, then you’re already a great candidate to enter the awards!

The judges will be looking for evidence of companies that pride themselves on offering great service or products to their customers. They’ll want to see who goes ‘above and beyond’ in terms of the service they offer or the products they supply.

Evidence of this could be in the form of feedback/testimonials or social media posts or even a loyal clientele or high repeat customer base.

Below are just some examples of what the judges will take into account when it comes to the judging process…

  • If you’re a business for whom community matters (you go above & beyond in providing great service for your customers and local community)
  • Businesses who are actively engaged in the local community (For example, you might be a great connector of people, are very ‘community spirited’ or might engage in local activities or help raise awareness of local issues, charities, projects and causes.
  • Companies that offer a great Corporate Social Responsibility/Environmental, Social Governance programme or approach.
  • A commitment to diversity within the workforce.
  • Evidence of the clear benefits and impact the business has had on the community (financial or in-kind, time and/or resources etc).

The Comittee

The ABBBAs is associated with Life In…Magazines (owned by Luna Creative Media Ltd) and has its own committee which is responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of the awards and ceremony event. The committee is made up of individuals that bring a wealth of experience across business, community, sales, sponsorship, marketing and events.

We are a dedicated team committed to putting the community at the heart of everything we do. Our efforts are aligned to celebrating and recognising the hard work and achievements of local businesses and individuals. The team strives to ensure that the awards event is a memorable and inspiring occasion that honours the spirit of community and collaboration.

The ABBBAs offers 14 individual awards. Judges will adopt a points system to allow for an impartial and fair process that gives any business, large or small, the opportunity to win.

The Compere

Greg Davies

Greg Davies (aka The StoryFella) is a bestselling author, multi award-winning director of BNI, President of the Founder’s Circle, corporate trainer and international inspirational speaker. On meeting Greg we felt that we had found a kindred spirit, as he told us he has the best job in the world because he gets to help businesses and communities thrive. Our Chosen Charity

Every year The ABBBAs helps raise money for a local charity. This year’s chosen charity is The Primrose Centre, which helps support those diagnosed with breast cancer, offering a safe space for healing and recuperation.

The charity relies entirely on fundraising and charitable donations and is run by a team of volunteers and supported by a staff of qualified therapists. The centre, based in Locksbottom, fulfils a huge local need, supporting hundreds of visitors every year.

Complementary therapies sit alongside sharing experiences with others in a similar situation to help aid recovery. Any fundraising efforts will go a long way to helping The Primrose Centre support those with a breast diagnosis at whatever stage of their treatment or recovery.

Sponsorship Opportunities

We have a range of sponsorship packages to cater to all budgets – from headline sponsors looking to raise their profile and show their support for the local business community, through to smaller businesses wanting to have their name associated with The ABBBAs on a tighter budget.

Meanwhile, our bespoke opportunities range from sponsoring the pre-dinner drinks reception or entertainment, through to having your business associated with the winners’ Champagne or the novelty Sweet Cart!
